41. Tho Pilat herde the tydynge: There is a puzzling
discontinuity here in the sequence of the narrative; lines 41-44 do not make
sense in their current position (which places the summoning of Jesus
before Pilate after the Ascension), and would belong more logically
after line 24, but they are linked by the tight rhyme-scheme to the
conclusion of the poem.
