Facilities

Our modern university research facilities, archives, and buildings give you access to the best equipment to advance your research.

Within the group we have a number of unique fabrication facilities. The flame hydrolysis deposition (FHD) system is the only such system in a university in the world and it allows us to deposit low loss glass layers on a wafer scale.

We have two direct UV writing systems that allow us to write integrated planar waveguides and Bragg gratings in planar chips and optical fibres.

Recently we built a suite of ultra-precision machining systems designed for processing planar optical materials.

We also have access to the Zepler Institute Cleanrooms and specialist labs. The cleanrooms are the best available in an academic setting in the UK.

Take a virtual tour of the Zepler Institute.
