Emily Van Evera has earned a fine reputation internationally as a leading exponent of earlier vocal repertoires. Born in Minnesota, she lives in Oxfordshire and has appeared as a soloist throughout Europe and North America with, amongst others, The Taverner Players, Orchestra of the 18th Century, Philharmonia Baroque, Tragicomedia, the London Symphony Orchestra, the Composers Ensemble, Circa 1500, Musicians of Swanne Alley, Sequentia, Tafelmusik, London Baroque, Fretwork, Ensemble Teatro Lirico and London Mozart Players.  Amongst her numerous recordings are award-winning discs of music by Monteverdi, Bach, Vivaldi and Handel with the Taverner Players (EMI, Virgin), by Luigi Rossi with Tragicomedia (Teldec), Cavalli with Concerto Palatino (Harmonia Mundi France) and Elizabethan song and ballads with Musicians of Swanne Alley (Virgin).

Emily's portrayal of Dido in Purcell's Dido and Aeneas in a Taverner Players recording (SONY) was hailed as the best recording of the work by, amongst others, BBC Music Magazine, and recent solo performances of music by Hildegard of Bingen were singled out for praise by Gramophone in a comparative survey of all Hildegard recordings - 'the sheer power of the words comes across nowhere else as strongly as in Van Evera's performance here'.  Her unaccompanied singing of music by Hildegard of Bingen was used by Angel/EMI Records as the basis of their best-selling Vision, awarded Best Classical Crossover CD of 1995 and for which she was named a 'Top Classical Crossover Artist' (Billboard).

Recent repertoire has ranged from virtuoso 16th- and 17th-century French and Italian song to lieder by Fanny Mendelssohn, songs by Charles Ives and dramatic works of Purcell, A. Scarlatti, Hasse and Rameau. Stage and television appearances have included leading roles in operas by Monteverdi, Lully, Charpentier and Handel. She is currently engaged in solo recording projects of music by Francesca Caccini and Barbara Strozzi. A hungry devotee of the wonderful renaissance repertoires for multiple voices, she is grateful to Musica Secreta for the opportunity to take part in this exciting exploratory ensemble project
