LAURA PEVERARA (PEPERARA)
CONTESSA TURCA (1550-1601)
Daughter of a Mantuan tutor, Laura Peverara was famous across the Veneto for her singing and harp-playing. Laura joined the musical establishment at Ferrara in the spring of 1580, and her arrival heralded a new phase in the Duke's private entertainment. Laura's musical abilities were the subject of many poems and musical works.
