The British Technology Group have issued this statement:
BTG has supported work at Southampton University on the isolation and use of juvenile stage-specific antigens from Fasciola hepatica in vaccination against fluke. Recent studies in conjunction with two Universities in Egypt has led to the development of a new molecular approach to the development of candidate antigen sequences. The antigens may have considerable value in both vaccination and diagnosis. The next phase of development would benefit from industrial collaboration to allow expansion of the programme to search more sequences and conduct T-cell screening of cloned candidates. it is expected that the technique under development may be applicable to other anti-parasitic vaccines and diagnostic agents.
