Project Description

This Department for Education and Employment funded project primarily aimed to increase the employability of Earth Science graduates by promoting the discussion and dissemination of good practice in the areas of personal and career development within Earth Sciences in UK Higher Education Institutions. Funding for the Project ended in 1998, the work is being continued through the UK Geosciences Education Consortium

We have:

1. Conducted an audit of current P&CD activities in UK Earth Science departments and assessed academic staff, student, and employer views on the implications of these initiatives for employment preparation

2. Evaluated the findings of this research and compiled a portfolio of current practice for distribution to all departments in the UK

3. Organised national meetings to disseminate and discuss current and proposed P&CD initiatives in Earth Sciences.

Employer support includes British Petroleum Exploration, British Gas, RTZ-CRA Mining and Exploration, and Tarmac.
