Geraldine Monk

I build atmospheric narratives gleaned from the coincidences of circumstance and the emotional geography of place. I want the physicality of words to hook around the lurking ghosts and drag them from their petrified corners.

biographical notes

Born Blackburn, Lancashire 1952.
1967 escaped school. 1969 escaped factories. 1974 escaped Leeds.
Moved to Staithes, North Yorkshire for 10 years of 'splendid isolation', some very odd jobs and increasing preoccupation with reading and writing poetry.
1988 B.A. Hons English Studies, Sheffield Hallam University.
1992-95 Visiting lecturer in Creative Writing & Communication Studies, Chesterfield College of Art
1992-99 Creative Writer at St. Luke's Hospice.
