Welcome to Southampton University Student Christian Movement
Past Events
Each year, SCM has a national theme. This year's theme for SCM is "Life in all it's fullness". This theme is at the centre of the SCM national conference which was
this year attended by several members of our group. Have a look at our photos section for some pics from the conference.
Last term:
TV programme: "30 days" with Morgan Spurlock. Muslims in America-A devout Christian lives in a Muslim community for 30 days.
A thought provoking programme that lead onto a discussion about Muslim prayer and how Christians can relate to the Muslim community.
Christian Unity Service to mark the end of Christian Unity Week.
An excellent service attended by members of SCM, CathSoc and the CU and the three chaplains representing the different denominations in Chaplaincy.
Despite being during the exams, this event had a really good turnout, some great music and a large buffet of food afterwards.
Another episode of the TV programme: "30 days" with Morgan Spurlock. Straight Man in a Gay World-A homophobic Christian moves to San Francisco's notoriously gay Castro district.
Another thought provoking programme leading to an open-minded discussion about gay Christians in todays world.
SCM and CathSoc join the CU for 24-7 prayer.
Members of SCM and CathSoc went to the CU prayer room for a 2 hour session of prayer and reflection.
Learning about Muslim prayer from members of the Islamic Society.
Following on from the discussion after the Morgan Spurlock programme earlier in the term, SCM were joined by members of the Islamic Society for an interesting session
on Muslim prayer.
A Re-Freshers social.
On the Wednesday following the Re-Freshers bunfight, we held a very well attended social to welcome new members to the group.
New members were given a taster of the activities of SCM.
A discussion on Science and Christianity with Prof. Keith Fox (School of Biological Sciences)
An input about Science and Christianity followed by questions from the group and a general discussion.
General socialising with food followed by tea and biscuits in the Chaplaincy.
A fun evening with some very relaxed discussion.
Eucharistic Passover
As the last event before the Easter break, we organised a Passover event in a Christian context.
