This is a 36 frame looping animation of the 2D-Bump GIF. The first, red trace is a hill climber based on local linearization followed by a simplex algorithm (108 function evaluations). The yellow trace is the classic Hooke and Jeeves search (278 evaluations). The purple trace is for a GA with 100 member populations run for 10 generations while the white points show all members from this search (1000 evaluations in all). The second red trace is for a simulated annealing run and shows the best values from each step of a logarithmic schedule (10 temperatures steps and 1000 evaluations in all).
