Increased Car Parking Charges – University Response

UNISON - Your Friend At WorkIn response to the concerns expressed by UNISON on your behalf, we have received a letter from Adam Wheeler responding sympathetically to our concerns over the rise in charges for parking.

As a result of UNISON having spoken up on your behalf, the University have agreed to adopt a much fairer plan for 2011. This will be based on ability to pay and the carbon emissions of the vehicle. They will be consulting with us in the new year to assist with development of this plan.

Whilst UNISON understands that this does not help anybody in 2010, we think it is the best we could have realistically hoped for. Although we are disappointed by the current situation, we are pleased that this affords us a real chance to address the inequity in the car parking charge scheme in the future and ensure that the opinions of support staff are well represented.

Additionally, UNISON believe it is significant that the University rightly seems to recognise the vital role that we play in ensuring that the interests of staff are taken care of.
