Robe ordering
All academics that are attending graduation as a member of the platform party are required to wear full academic dress for the occasion. Academic dress includes Robe, Hood and Hat, and these items are ordered free of charge for staff. The more colourful and ornate the platform party robes are the better and more dramatic the effect for the audience. It must be said that some pressure is put upon the Faculties by the Senior Officers of the University to produce a good turn-out for their Faculty platform parties. If you have attended graduation in this capacity in the last 3 years then the Graduation Team will already have your robe details on file.

You may ask to check these details to ensure that they are correct before they are ordered. Please remember to inform your Faculty Staff Participation Co-ordinator if there are any changes to your circumstances; i.e. you intend to retire, or you have furthered your academic qualifications which in turn will change the order requirement of your robe.
Academic platform attendance by name can be viewed by ceremony on this website. Please use this to see who you may be sitting with and also if there are still seats available to request – this is done by contacting your Faculty Staff Participation Co-ordinator.
If you have not attended graduation before, you will be asked to give your robe ordering requirements to your Faculty Staff Participation Co-ordinator when you apply to attend graduation as a member of the Platform Party. These details will then be passed on to the Graduation Team who will order them on your behalf.
On the day that you will be attending your chosen ceremonies all academic robes will be available for collection from the Academic Robing Room:
Winter ceremonies - Murray Building 58, ground floor foyer
Summer ceremonies - The Annex Building 2
This is also where you can pick up your copy of the ceremonial programme. Please collect your robe up to one hour prior to the start of ceremony, and definitely no later than 20 minutes before the start of the ceremony.
Wippells the University’s robe makers will have with them an alphabetical list of all academics that have submitted their intention to attend as a member of the platform party for these graduation dates. This will give details of all ordered robes for each set of ceremonies, and also of all academics who requested plain black robes only. This list will also include all academics who missed the robe ordering deadline and are being supplied with a plain black robe. If for some reason we do not know about your attendance until the day we will do our best to accommodate you by finding a platform seat available on the ceremony of your choice, but you will only be able to wear a plain black robe. NB finding a seat on the day cannot be guaranteed.
The Wippells deadline for ordering academic robes from the Graduation Team is:
The first Friday in November for winter ceremonies
The first Friday in June for summer ceremonies
This deadline cannot be changed as Wippells will not accept any further robe orders after this date.
