Dan Levene in Israel

Dan Levene was invited to be one of a small group of hand picked scholars who would be guests of The Institute for Advanced Studies at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem . The main objective of the Institute for Advanced Studies is to serve as a catalyst for outstanding scholarly work in a wide variety of fields such as Jewish studies, history, philosophy, Islamic studies, literature, life sciences, mathematics, and physics. The project of the group that he was a part of was entitled: ‘Occult Powers and Officiants in Near Eastern Cultures'.

AHRC Holocaust and its Legacy Project

This research project will explore and explain key issues in the historiography and representations of the Holocaust, the emergence of the Holocaust as a cultural subject post-1945, and the eruption of Holocaust-era issues into politics since the 1980s.

The project will analyse the experience and representation of Jews in the 20th century in comparison with other ethnic minorities in British society.

2002

AHRC Jews and Literary Representation in Britain Project

The aim of this project is to focus on the discursive construction of Jewish identity in cultural texts by Jewish and non-Jewish writers in order to establish the particular historical contexts in which representations of Jews were produced. This interdisciplinary approach will analyse the ways a number of widespread and shifting political, social and cultural anxieties or aspirations were focused around the figure of the 'Jew', and it will account for the complex and dynamic nature of 'semitic discourse' in modern Britain.

AHRC Port Jews Project

The project aims to evaluate the relations between Jews and non-Jews in port cities where Jews settled between 1650 and 1914.

AHRC Greek Bible Project

This project will provide a re-evaluation of the Greek Bible as a source for Jews' interpretation of the political, social and intellectual culture of their hellenistic world (defined as continuing into the period of the early Roman Empire).
