Electronic journal providers

Although the Library subscribes to a vast range of electronic journals, many are provided by just a few large services.  They provide the facility to browse for full text articles, or to do searches across the whole database.  We might not have a subscription to every journal in a database, or the subscription might be limited to certain years.  If you are denied full text access to an article, please check the information and notes for the title on our TDNet A-Z list of electronic subscriptions.  For a list of subscribed titles for each supplier do a search on TDNet limited to the publisher or vendor name.  Links to the home pages for the databases listed below are given on our A-Z list of databases and websites, with additional information on access to them off-campus for user without VPN.

ACM Digital Library

Full text access to all the Association of Computing Machinery journals and conferences.

ASM journals

Online database providing full text access to the twelve main titles published by the American Society for Microbiology.

BioMed Central

BioMed Central is a publisher committed to providing immediate free access to peer-reviewed biomedical research articles in its journals.  The library doesn't subscribe to the BioMed Central review journals.

DOAJ Directory of Open Access Journals

Covers free, full text, quality controlled scientific and scholarly journals. Full access therefore available.

EBSCOhost Journals Service

Database owned by our main subscription agent, Ebsco, hosting or providing access to titles published by many different publishers.  After browsing journals hosted on this service by title, it is possible to filter results to produce a list of those for which we have a full text subscription.

Not to be confused with EbscoHost Web, which is a database service which indexes articles and provides abstracts without allowing direct full text access.

IEEEXplore

Provides full text access to all Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (and the UK equivalent the IEE) journals & conferences since 1988 as well as all current IEEE Standards. Some of the conferences are not individually catalogued.

Informa Healthcare

About 180 titles in the medical, pharmaceutical and life sciences subject areas accessible from the first date of publication.  Use the 'Subscribed Journals' tab in their alphabetical browse lists to check whether or not you can have full text access.

InformaWorld

Full text database supplied by Taylor & Francis.  We currently subscribe to many of the titles from 1997 onwards.  Search across all titles, or browse using the alphabetical or subject lists provided.

IngentaConnect

This is a gateway service offering access to the e-journal published by many different suppliers via a user-friendly interface.

Institute of Physics

We subscribe to a set collection of current titles plus all the publications in their Historic Archive package, giving access to all content published 1874-1998.

JSTOR

JSTOR is a not-for-profit electronic archive.  It negotiates deals with publishers to make older issues of key titles available to HE institutions.  It can therefore offer access to some very old issues that are not available in digital format elsewhere, but does not normally provide current issues published in the last three to five years.

OECD iLibrary

OECD iLibrary is OECD’s Online Library for Books, Papers and Statistics and the gateway to OECD’s analysis and data.  OECD iLibrary users are able to conduct searches, retrieve listings of publications meeting the search criteria, and choose to download selected titles in various formats, or selected statistical data in spreadsheet format.  We only subscribe to a relatively small number of publications.  Access to these publications is available from January 1998 onwards.

Project MUSE

We subscribe to over 300 titles in the Standard Collection, covering the arts and humanities, social sciences and mathematics.  Older back runs of many of its titles are provided by JSTOR.

ScienceDirect

We subscribe to the majority of journals in this database from 1995 onwards.  (We go further back for some Chemistry titles).  Please check TDNet for details.

SpringerLink

We subscribe to many but not all titles in this database.  Access is normally from 1997 onwards unless we have negotiated an earlier start date.

Wiley Interscience

We subscribe to the majority of titles hosted on this service from 1997 onwards although a few are available further back than this.
