Pro Bono Initiatives

Pro Bono initiatives in the Southampton Law School

The Southampton Law School is unique in offering a wide range of Pro Bono initiatives for undergraduate LLB students and the projects are open to any LLB students who give up their time voluntarily to help others.

All projects are supported and assisted by Southampton Law School  academic staff, who work collaboratively with local and national law firms. Pro Bono work is proving extremely popular with aspiring barristers and solicitors alike, enabling students to develop essential transferable skills that will be vital for them in their careers.

The most recent addition to the Pro Bono work portfolio is BarLink, in which students may be twinned with a barrister specialising in criminal law, employment law, family law or housing law.

The popular Southampton Law School  housing clinic, run by second and third year law students operates a 'citizens- advice- style' housing clinic for other students at the University.

Streetlaw run in collaboration with the College of Law, at which many of our graduates go on to complete their Bar Vocational training and Legal Practice courses, works with local community groups on legal concerns that are relevant to them.

From the most recent Pro bono event to launch BarLink, more exciting new projects have developed, including the European Law Monitor website, where nine students are involved in writing articles, discussions with organisations such as Mencap, NSPCC and Community Legal Advice, Portsmouth, and meetings with leading law firm representatives from Shoosmiths.
