Stand and Deliver: Giving Presentations
The ability to present confidently and effectively can be crucial to individual, team and organisational success - especially in research. Working from the premise that ‘the best presenters speak honestly and as themselves’, VOX Coaching will inspire you to become an outstanding public speaker.
During this course you’ll explore practical ways to analyse and develop your own presentation style, address an audience, develop vocal and physical presence, deal with nerves and tackle questions effectively.
There is a strict limit of 10 participants so that every participant will get individual feedback and support, priority goes to research staff on a first-come first-served basis.
Concordat and Research Development Framework transferable skills addressed:
- Engagement, influence and impact
- Communication and dissemination
- Reputation and esteem
- Self-confidence
- Communication methods and media
Facilitator: Pete Bailie (Academic, Actor, Coach and Trainer)
Feedback from previous workshop:
This workshop first ran at Southampton in November 2010. Every single participant gave this workshop the highest possible mark for their 'Overall rating of the session'. Evaluations from those Southampton research staff were altogether excellent, including, for example:
"This is the most well run, informative, and most importantly empowering course I have been on - providing a range of techniques for managing presenting (both emotionally & structurally)."
"Quite honestly, this is the most useful course I have done at the University in 14 years. The session leader was excellent."
