Deskside Coaching

In addition to the workshop programme and bespoke courses, LATEU offers free advice and training to help tutors develop their practice and skills. This is available as deskside coaching for individuals or for small groups with ongoing support by phone, email or visit as required. Examples include:

  • informal discussion and advice on training/qualifications most appropriate to individuals
  • advice and training on any of the topics covered in our workshop programme
  • informal discussions about learning and teaching issues, with reference to good practice and case studies about colleagues who have tried something similar
  • being a Module Leader (module design and management)
  • being a Programme Leader (programme design and management)
  • applying to the Higher Education Academy (HEA) for recognition at Associate or Fellow Status
  • qualifications available – information on PILT, PCAP or MSc’s in learning & teaching
  • turning your teaching innovation into publishable action research

Advice and training for tutors who wish to develop their use of e-learning - for example:

  • how to use blackboard (basic or advanced features)
  • good practice in using discussion forums for structured and focused debate
  • using wikis for collaborative knowledge building or project management
  • using blogs for work placement learning journals and project logs
  • developing effective questions for online assessment
  • use of the Turnitin service to deter plagiarism
  • managing the online submission of assessments
  • locating and using high-quality online resources
  • creating stand-alone learning activities and learning objects
  • videoconferencing
