University Public Workstations

There are approximately 1,700 public workstations within rooms on all campuses and in most halls of residence. Bone fide members of the University may login and use these use these machines, using their University username and password. These Microsoft Windows PCs have an extensive software portfolio and a selection of printers, scanners, CD and DVD writers. Some of the rooms are designated Common Learning Spaces and are primarily for group teaching. When no classes are scheduled they are open for public use. Other rooms are reserved solely for open (individual staff or student) use.
Software portfolio
Public workstations are equipped with a large portfolio of teaching software. A core software portfolio is installed on all iSolutions PC workstations, including Microsoft Office and some statistics and graphics applications. Scanning and/or CD writing software is installed on all PCs attached to scanners and/or with CD writing facilities.
A range of specialist software is installed to support the Assistive Technology Service (ATS). Some of this software is available on all PC workstations whereas other packages are restricted to the dedicated ATS workstations.
Laptop Loan scheme
In partnership with the Hartley Library, iSolutions provides a three-hour laptop loan service in the Library. These laptops have Microsoft Office software installed and are internet wireless-enabled. The scheme offers users the freedom of the library study zones enabling users to record notes online when working with restricted journals or books.
