The 15 point plan of things to do for graduation:graduand stood by stone statue

1. Make sure that you adhere to all the deadlines as published on this website.

2. Fully complete and submit the online application form to attend graduation form by the stated application deadline.

This application only reserves your place at graduation, final place confirmation and your e-ticket  can only be sent in December after the final awards date.

3. Receive a confirmation email that your application form has been safely received – if not received within 5 working days urgently inform the Graduation Team: Graduation@soton.ac.uk

4. You will receive an e-ticket confirming your ceremony, date and time in early December (approximately a week before the ceremonies start).  Once all the applications have been received and the ceremonies ordered by programme – make sure the Graduation Team has your current email address to send your e-ticket to.

You may invite as many family and friends to join you on your special day as you wish, two of whom may accompany you into the ceremonial hall.  Your other guests will be accommodated in other venues with live link plasma screens (for further details please see the Venues section of this website).  There is no charge for guest seating.

6. Be awarded on or before the last award date at the end of November – confirmation of your award will come from your School not the Graduation Team.

7. Receive an email in December (a week before the ceremonies) which confirms your e-ticket and your guest tickets have been allocated and will be available for your collection on the day of your ceremony at graduation, from the Ticket Collection and Information Desk.  Guest tickets can only be collected by graduands wearing academic dress and proof of your own e-ticket.

8. Check that the spelling of your name is correct in your Self-service student record system and that this is your full and legal name.  This is the name that will appear on your award certificate.  Let your School know if changes are required.

9. Make sure that your graduation email address, and mobile telephone number are updated regularly with any changes, as this is the email address/number that will be used by the Graduation Team for important communications with you until your graduation ceremony has taken place.  You may choose to use a home or work email address.  Please check your Self-service student record system now to see that the mobile number and email address you have recorded for graduation use is correct.  IMPORTANTgraduand and guest - if you use a free email account such as Hotmail make sure you check your junk mail and add gradapps@soton.ac.uk to your 'safe senders' list.

You must hire or buy your robe, hood and mortarboard from Wippells, the University’s robe makers.  Please see the Wippells section on this website and hire or purchase your academic dress before the deadline of the last Friday in November.  Academic dress is mandatory for graduation, no robe, hood or mortarboard – no ceremony.

11. Ensure that all student debt is cleared by the outstanding payments deadline.  This includes the full payment of academic, residency and accommodation fees, and any other outstanding library loan or fee due to the University of Southampton.  Failure to do so will prevent you from graduating.  Check now by going to your student account; you can pay any debts by going to: www.webpayments.soton.ac.uk

12. Please make sure that you know where all the graduation venues and facilities are located before you arrive on the day – check the Graduation facilities maps.

13. International graduands wishing to return for their ceremony may need to apply for a visa, please visit the Visa Information section on this website.

14. Graduands and guests with additional health requirements/disability/blue badge holders (mobility, visual, hearing, unseen health concerns, late stages of pregnancy, broken limbs etc) must inform the Graduation Team before 31 October.  Please refer to the Additional health requirements/disability/blue badge holder section on this graduation website for information on special seating, parking and arrangements.

15. Please make sure that you have read the graduation website in full, and re-visit this site regularly as it may be with new information.
