Intensive course in Research & Presentation Skills Development

Target Audience

This course is open to all new research students in Engineering, Science and Mathematics disciplines, and is compulsory for some of these (please check with your supervisor, school office, or Graduate School Director if you are unsure about this).

Purpose

This 4-day intensive generic skills course “Research and Presentation Skills Development” will enable you to acquire the core skills you are likely to need early in your research candidature.  You will be learning alongside other research students from a range of science and engineering disciplines, in an environment which promotes team-working and networking.

How to register

Please note that for organisational reasons there is no on-line registration available for this course.  To enrol, please use the 4 day Skills Training Form, which should be completed in consultation with your supervisor as part of your training needs analysis. Please follow the instructions on the form closely, and return the completed version to your school office in the first instance. NB We anticipate that demand for this course will be very high, and would therefore encourage you to be as flexible as possible with regard to your availability to attend the groups, keeping as many dates free as possible. Students will be allocated to groups on a first-come-first served basis, and will receive e-mail confirmation of their group.

(Please note that this course is purchased from an external provider and offered free of charge to students; however, failure to attend an allocated group may result in a charge being levied.)

(NB the course will run over a full four days. It will not be possible to attend part of a week, or combine elements of different weeks.)

Venue

This training will take place in the Graduate School Training Rooms on level 3 of Building 27. Confirmation of rooms and timings will be included with joining instructions.
