Accident Advice for Drivers of Vehicles Insured Under University of Southampton Motor Insurance Arrangements
NEVER ADMIT LIABILITY
An accident must be reported to the police if injuries are involved or if it is not possible to exchange details e.g. an accident with an unattended car or other property. If your vehicle is stolen or damaged whilst unattended you must also advise the police and obtain a police incident report number
Give the Third party:-
- Your name, Department and the University's address.
- If requested, the name of the University's Motor Insurers:

Policy No. NHE-11CA11-0013-52 - and advise that all correspondence should be addressed to
Ruth McFadyen, Insurance Services Manager, Finance Dept.
University of Southampton, Highfield, Southampton SO17 1BJ
Obtain from the Third Party:-
- his/her name and address
- if it is a company vehicle the name address of his/her employer
- the name, address and Policy No. of his/her Insurersiv) the make and registration number of Third Party vehicle
- details of any apparent damage to the Third Party car or any other property
- details of any Third Party injuries
Obtain the name and address of any independent witnesses to the accident. Statements from independent witnesses can assist in making recoveries from Third Parties. It is often not possible to take such a statement at the time and witnesses should be advised that they will be contacted later if necessary.
Make a sketch of the scene, noting as near as possible the position of the vehicles, road markings, signs, signals, and the name of the road, etc.
If a Third Party was involved or if repair costs for your vehicle exceed £250 - report the accident to the Insurance Assistant on ext. 24790 or e-mail insure@soton.ac.uk and obtain a claim form.
WINDSCREENS - If you have a broken windscreen phone Autoglass on 0800 36 36 36 and quote Account Number 18865 in the name of the University of Southampton. You will not be invoiced but must advise the Insurance Administrator as soon as possible.
