Having successfully completed this module you will be able to:

• Recognise and critically appraise within maternity services, the value of the patient voice.
• Critically evaluate the role and importance of contemporaneous records
• Critically analyse programmes of care demonstrating modifications for the improvements of outcomes for women, babies and their families
• Critically appraise the diagnostic and decision making skills required for the safe assessment, planning and delivery of care for a woman with complex health care needs during childbirth
• Demonstrate and evaluate safe practice within the limitations of the individual’s own competence, knowledge and sphere of professional practice, consistent with the legislation relating to midwifery practice
