Welcome to the Gendering Citizenship learning activity.
Aims of the Learning Activity
The aim of this activity is to enable you to assess an area of citizenship where it is commonly believed that equality has been achieved, but where the lived experience of citizens may be quite different. While carrying out the activity you will be able to:
- Consider the obstacles that might preclude women’s full citizenship in contemporary society
- Evaluate the relevance of feminism on women’s citizenship
- Discuss methods that might ensure equality of citizenship
- Analyse the extent to which your University achieves equal opportunities for women
Learning Outcomes
Having completed the activity you should be able to:
- Identify organisational and ‘philosophical’ barriers to women’s participation as full citizens
- Assess different methods to equalise women’s inclusion as citizens
