The Centre of Excellence for Teaching and Learning responsible for citizenship education, as well as human rights and social justice, is CRUCIBLE, which is based at Roehampton University.
The Post 16 Citizenship website hosts a great deal of information about initiatives and services for those engaged in what might be described as ‘pre-university’ citizenship education. It therefore provides insights into some of the foundations on which citizenship education in higher education can be built.
For citizenship education in schools the Association for Citizenship Teaching (ACT) website provides a good starting point. The ACT is the first professional subject association for Citizenship.
Another organisation that is concerned primarily with citizenship in schools is the Citizenship Foundation.
Funded by the Training and Development Agency for Schools (England), citizEd fosters collaboration with higher education for all providers of initial teacher education.
At European level CiCe: Children's Identity and Citizenship in Europe is a Thematic Network linking university and college departments engaged in educating students about how children and young people learn about and understand, their society, their identity and citizenship.
