Welcome to CCC
The Centre was set up in 2004 to develop the University's academic links with China. Since then, the Centre has developed strategic partnerships including Nanjing University, with which it has established a joint international college and created a joint research centre, initially concentrating on the fields of public health, oceanography and higher education management. In addition, it has established strong relationships with Peking University, Tsinghua University Shenzhen Graduate School, Shanghai University of Finance and Economics and Ocean University of China, Qingdao (Southampton's sister city), etc. The Centre also manages the Innovation China UK (ICUK) project, funded from a successful Higher Education Innovation Fund bid to support knowledge transfer activities with Chinese universities.

The Centre's directives are proposed by the Steering Group:
- To develop and provide an MSc programme for International Comparative Studies.
- To co-ordinate and encourage the development of research into contemporary China.
- To identify and support initiatives and areas of co-operation with the highest ranked Universities and institutions in China.
- To provide courses to develop knowledge of contemporary China within the University.
- To provide courses to develop knowledge of UK and EU for Chinese customers.
- To provide a research and consultancy service to industry and others on contemporary China.
Research and PhD programme
The CCC is striving for research excellence in contemporary China in the areas of economics, management and international relations. The CCC has established substantial research links and joint PhD programmes with many top research institutions including Peking University, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences (SASS), Shanghai University of Finance and Economics (SUFE) and National Taiwan University, etc. Students in these areas with sufficient qualifications are encouraged to apply for our programme. Limited scholarships are available for high quality applicants.
