Arriving Early or Late

You should aim to arrive at Hall on the date your Contract begins, as detailed in your offer of accommodation. If you need to arrive earlier or later than this date however, we may be able to help.

Arriving Early

If you need to arrive earlier than the beginning of your contract,  please send an email to arrivals@soton.ac.uk after you have accepted your offer of accommodation. This will be checked by your Hall Manager, who will let you know if it is possible to accommodate you from the date you specify.

As our Halls are occupied for 51 weeks per year, we can usually only accommodate students for a maximum of up to one week before their contract begins, and an early arrival can only be granted if it is for an academic reason i.e. if your course of study begins earlier than the contract start date, which can occasionally be the case (for example, for PGCE students).

Arriving Late

If you want to arrive later than the beginning of your contract, then again please notify us by sending an email to arrivals@soton.ac.uk. If a student who has accepted an offer of accommodation does not arrive within 48 hours of the start of their contract, and has not notified us that they will arrive late, their room may be withdrawn and offered to another student.

Please note that if you are arriving late and we hold your room for you, you will still be charged from the beginning of the contract that you accepted. This is because we would not be able to re-let the room for the period before your actual arrival.
